 Welcome to the Bourne Archives!

Hours:

Monday:           9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Tuesday:          9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Wednesday:    6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

The Bourne Archives are housed in the Jonathan Bourne Historical Center (the former Bourne Public Library), which was built overlooking the Cape Cod Canal. This landmark building contains large Palladian windows as well as a handsome stained glass window depicting "St. Michael and the Dragon" by Clayton & Bell of London, England. The Archives contain town records, family collections, photographs, slides, books, maps, oral histories, and other documentary resources. If you are interested in researching the history of Bourne, its buildings, and its families (or simply getting a picture of life in the earlier days of Bourne), then you are welcome to visit. In addition, visitors are always invited during the above hours, or by appointment, to come have a tour of this outstanding building.

Directions to the Archives

From the West: Take Route 495 South across the Bourne Bridge. Take the first right after the State Police Barracks onto Trowbridge Road. At the first four-way intersection, turn right onto Sandwich Road. Then take the first left onto Keene Street. We are at 30 Keene Street, facing the Canal.

From the East: Take Route 6 to the exit to Exit 1 , just before the Sagamore Bridge. Turn left at the third road (Ben Abbey Road) and at the end of the road turn left onto Sandwich Rd/Route 6A. Follow Sandwich Road along the Canal until you reach the fork just before the Bourne Bridge - the exit is marked Monument Beach. About a half mile up on your right will be Keene St. (just before the small post office). We are at 30 Keene Street, facing the Canal.

From the North: Take Route 3 South to the Sagamore Rotary, cross over the Sagamore Bridge and take exit 1. At the lights at the end of the ramp, turn left onto Sandwich Rd/Route 6A. Then follow the directions above from Sandwich Road.
