HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS PRODUCTS COLLECTION

and PAPER SHREDDING

Saturday October 18 at Peebles Elementary School, 70 Trowbridge Road, Bourne     9:00 am to 1:00 pm

This is the last of four collections of HHP held annually in four Upper Cape towns on different dates. This free collection and safe disposal of toxic products not accepted at our landfill is done to prevent harm to people, animals, the environment, or our sole source aquifer.  Examples of items accepted are AUTO FLUIDS (brake fluid, car cleaner, gasoline) CLEANERS AND CHEMICALS ( disinfectants, oven cleaner, pool chemicals), MERCURY PRODUCTS ( thermometers, thermostats, switches, blood pressure gauges), PAINTS, POLISHES & STAINS (alkyd and oil-based paint and stain, wood preservatives, metal and furniture polish), YARD CHEMICALS( fertilizers with weed killers, pesticides, insecticides, driveway sealer.  Try to bring them in their original containers.  Latex paint is not accepted as it can be dried out and thrown in the trash.  Questions?  Call 508-375-6699 or 800-319-2783.  The complete list of items accepted can be found below.

In addition, Bourne residents only may bring up to three medium boxes or bags of paper you would like to have shredded at no cost. Staples and paper clips do not have to be removed.  Once again, the Doc Shredding Company of Wrentham, MA is providing this service.  They have an A rating from the Better Business Bureau and are a member in good standing with NAID (National Association for Information Destruction) who audits them twice a year. The paper is cut fine, baled and pulped for use in the production of recycled paper.  508-384-0075.

See you there!

Attention Falmouth, Mashpee and Sandwich residents
Residential customers coming from Falmouth, Mashpee and Sandwich are welcome to our facility, however access will be limited depending on the type of materials you are bringing.  We ask that you follow the guidance below as the residential recycling center is primarily for Bourne residents and property owners with stickers and is not equipped to transact business in the same manner as our scale.

All out of town residents will be treated as paying customers that must use our scale, which is closed at noon on Saturdays and all day Sunday, to weigh in and weigh out and pay the appropriate charges.  Access for those with household trash shall be limited to the daily hours for Bourne residents, 7:00 AM – 3:00 PM Wed. through Monday; but only until noon on Saturdays and not at all on Sundays (Tuesdays will be available after Memorial Day until Labor Day).  If a customer has construction and demolition debris, ISWM can accept those items over the scale until 4 PM during the weekdays and until noon on Saturdays for access to the transfer station area.  Please note that small car traffic is not allowed in the landfill so they must use the recycling center.  We appreciate your cooperation.

WELCOME !
Welcome to the webpage for the Department of Integrated Solid Waste Management (ISWM.) ISWM has had, and will continue to have, a large impact on the affairs of the Town of Bourne. Many questions have been asked about its operations and how they affect residents. We recognize these concerns and are committed to providing the residents of Bourne with the information they seek. One way in which we hope to provide information to the community, is through the use of this webpage. Please explore the different sections to familiarize yourself with our operations.

Listed below are other ways to learn about what we do:

1.     Residents are encouraged to arrange for a tour of the facility and the opportunity to discuss any issues directly with ISWM management.
2.     ISWM management periodically has cable TV shows on Comcast channel 13 to provide updates to the community and show new footage of the site.
3.     Usually annually, ISWM conducts an open house at the facility. Please check this website and the local newspapers for an announcement about the next event.
4.     ISWM has been and will continue to be available for speaking engagements at civic organizations, clubs, and business groups.
5.     ISWM staff periodically appears before the Board of Selectmen, Board of Health, Finance Committee, Capital Outlay Committee and the ISWM Landfill Business Model Working Group. Check posted meeting agendas to see if ISWM is scheduled to attend.
6.     Finally, we encourage you to read items listed in the “Useful Documents” section at the bottom right of this website. Included there are several presentations that provide detailed information about our operations and plans.

We hope you find the information on this site useful and look forward to continuously improving its content. Please feel free to contact me 508-759-0651, or by e-mail at dbarrett@townofbourne.com if you have any questions or comments.
