 Welcome!
Bourne Celebrates Earth Day and
25th Anniversary of Recycling in Bourne

Bourne- The Town of Bourne, Department of Integrated Solid Waste Management (ISWM) will host an Open House on Saturday, April 19, 2014 from 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. at the residential recycling center located at 201 MacArthur Boulevard off Route 28 north to celebrate Earth Day.

The Open House will include tours of the ISWM facility, information on recycling topics and giveaways for the kids. The Recycling Committee will also be on hand to answer questions at the SWAP SHOP. The Selectmen’s Energy Advisory Committee, Cape and Islands Self Reliance, and the Cape Islands Renewable Energy Collaborative (CIRENEW) will also have information available.

Bourne is also commemorating the 25th anniversary of the inception of its recycling and composting programs. To mark the occasion, ISWM has commissioned staff from the local AmeriCorps house in Bourne to paint a special mural on the side of the construction and demolition waste transfer station that is now in progress.

Additionally, ISWM will host the premier of a special video featuring highlights of the Town’s efforts in integrated solid waste management over the decades on Thursday, April 24, 2014 at 5:30 p.m. at the Jonathan Bourne Public Library conference room. The evening will also entail a presentation of Trashed, a documentary hosted by Jeremy Irons that shows the effects of waste on our planet and what we can do about it. More information is available at trashedfilm.com.

“This will a fun day for all and will provide an opportunity for folks to learn about some of the latest developments at ISWM, including construction of our new liner and the potential to host an anaerobic digester on-site that will process organics matter and convert it into gas to be used to make renewable energy” said Dan Barrett, ISWM General Manager.

Attention, the C&D transfer station is currently closed because of a recent fire.

Paint shed opens for the the season beginning Friday, April 4th.

Attention Falmouth, Mashpee and Sandwich residents
Residential customers coming from Falmouth, Mashpee and Sandwich are welcome to our facility, however access will be limited depending on the type of materials you are bringing.  We ask that you follow the guidance below as the residential recycling center is primarily for Bourne residents and property owners with stickers and is not equipped to transact business in the same manner as our scale.

All out of town residents will be treated as paying customers that must use our scale, which is closed at noon on Saturdays and all day Sunday, to weigh in and weigh out and pay the appropriate charges.  Access for those with household trash shall be limited to the daily hours for Bourne residents, 7:00 AM – 3:00 PM Wed. through Monday; but only until noon on Saturdays and not at all on Sundays (Tuesdays will be available after Memorial Day until Labor Day).  If a customer has construction and demolition debris, ISWM can accept those items over the scale until 4 PM during the weekdays and until noon on Saturdays for access to the transfer station area.  Please note that small car traffic is not allowed in the landfill so they must use the recycling center.  We appreciate your cooperation.

WELCOME !
Welcome to the webpage for the Department of Integrated Solid Waste Management (ISWM.) ISWM has had, and will continue to have, a large impact on the affairs of the Town of Bourne. Many questions have been asked about its operations and how they affect residents. We recognize these concerns and are committed to providing the residents of Bourne with the information they seek. One way in which we hope to provide information to the community, is through the use of this webpage. Please explore the different sections to familiarize yourself with our operations.

Listed below are other ways to learn about what we do:

1.     Residents are encouraged to arrange for a tour of the facility and the opportunity to discuss any issues directly with ISWM management.
2.     ISWM management periodically has cable TV shows on Comcast channel 13 to provide updates to the community and show new footage of the site.
3.     Usually annually, ISWM conducts an open house at the facility. Please check this website and the local newspapers for an announcement about the next event.
4.     ISWM has been and will continue to be available for speaking engagements at civic organizations, clubs, and business groups.
