Bourne Fire / Rescue & Emergency Services consists of 37 career firefighters, who are also trained as paramedics and emergency medical technicians. In addition, we also have approximately 12 call firefighters. In addition to the firefighting and medical training all of our firefighters have, many of our firefighters also have specialized training in various areas such as hazardous materials response, scuba diving and water rescue, high angle rescue, etc. The cross training of our members in both firefighting and emergency medical services, in addition to the many voluntary specialties our firefighters pursue, is a tremendous asset to our department and provide Bourne Fire / Rescue with the expertise to be the lead agency for almost any emergency our town and its citizen’s encounter.
Bourne Fire / Rescue & Emergency Services operates 4 shifts each
made up of 9 Firefighter/Paramedic/EMT’s.
We operate 24 hours a day, out of three manned stations and one on call
station. Each day Bourne Fire / Rescue & Emergency Services is staffed
with a minimum of 8 people on duty throughout the town. The stations are
staffed as follows:
Headquarters located at 130 Main Street in Buzzards Bay.
Staffing: 1 Deputy Fire Chief, 1 Fire Lieutenant, 2 or 3 Firefighter/Paramedics/EMT’s
Station 2 (Monument Beach) located at Thomas Philbrick Avenue
Staffing: None, it is a call station
Station 3 (Sagamore) located at 51 Meetinghouse Lane
2 Firefighter/Paramedic/EMT’s
Station 4 (Pocasset) located at 311 Barlow’s Landing Road
2 Firefighter/Paramedic/EMT’s
All of these on duty employees respond to all types of calls, ranging from emergency medical calls to more involved calls such as building fires, hazardous materials incidents, water rescues etc..
These on duty Firefighters/Paramedic/EMT’s staff 3 advanced life support (ALS) ambulances These firefighters, who are all cross trained, also provide the manning for 3 fire engines. In addition to fires, all of our fire engines are equipped to provide other needed services at motor vehicle accidents, ice and water rescues, hazardous materials incidents, etc. The on duty personnel also provide the manning for our ladder truck, 2 rescue boats, 2 brush breakers, our special hazards trailer (which contains our scuba diving and high angle equipment), and an environmental oil spill trailer.
In addition to emergency responses, our on duty personnel perform countless mandatory safety inspections such as smoke and carbon monoxide detection resale inspections, oil burner inspections, etc. We also provide many Fire / Emergency community presentations/courses as required or requested.
