Socializing With Our Peers

formerly known as "Special Works Opportunity Program"

Mission Statement:

SWOP’s mission statement is to provide social opportunities to adults with intellectual disabilities residing in the Town of Bourne.  We do this through social settings that foster independence and cultivate respect and support through community involvement.

Members:

SWOP is open to residents and family members of residents of the Town of Bourne with intellectual disabilities who have aged out of the school system or are 18 years of age and older.  Parents, guardians and caregivers are welcome to drop their members off or are welcome to stay for scheduled activities.

SWOP Schedule and Location:

SWOP follows the school calendar for the Town of Bourne, commencing in September and completing in June each year. The program members meet on Tuesday evenings at 6 pm for an hour and a half. Generally, SWOP meets at the Intermediate School or at Ryan’s Family Amusement in Buzzards Bay, alternating each week between locations. Participants are provided a detailed calendar of events several times during the course of the year noting the schedule and location of each meeting.

Volunteers:

Volunteers are always welcome at SWOP.  Individuals interested in volunteering will meet with the SWOP Volunteer Coordinator to disscuss what is normally expected of volunteers.  Prior to attending SWOP, all volunteer applicants must complete a CORI background check.
