Firefighter

Bourne Fire/Rescue and Emergencies Services is a civil service fire department.   

Applicants for full-time positions must take the Municipal Firefighter Examination which is administered by the Massachusetts Human Resource Division to be considered. We do accept lateral transfers. In addition:

  • You must be a certified paramedic or emergency medical technician to be considered.
  • You must be 31 years old or younger as of the original examination date. However, if you are a qualified veteran either still in or released from the military, you may add up to a maximum of four years of service time to your age but must have not yet reached your 36th birthday as of the date of the exam.
  • You must pass a medical examination, physical abilities test, psychological screening, an extensive background investigation, an interview board and successfully complete the Massachusetts Career Recruit Firefighter Training Program at the Massachusetts Firefighting Academy.
  • There is no residency requirement.

The 2023 Firefighter examination is over. We will post additional information on future Firefighter examinations here. You can find additional information and apply on the Civil Service website.

To be considered for a Call Firefighter/EMT position:

  • Be presently certified as an EMT or enrolled in an approved EMT program. 

  • You must be willing to successfully complete a Firefighter I/II training program
