Route 6 (Scenic Highway) Corridor Information

Scenic Highway is critical to all of Cape Cod, having an average daily vehicle count of 26,845 and a summer count of 35,309 vehicles per day. It is part of the transportation system around the Cape Cod Canal and the most heavily utilized corridor between the Bourne and Sagamore Bridges.

In 2014, MassDOT conducted a Road Safety Audit and found a significant number of crashes, high speeds, lack of shoulders and more. They have proposed a project to improve safety by:

  • lane and shoulder widening
  • center raised median
  • cross slope improvements
  • upgrade drainage system
  • install a shared use path

The project corridor, which extends approximately one mile along Scenic Highway, begins just east of its intersection with Nightingale Road and terminates east of its intersection with Edgehill Road. Information that has been provided to the Town from MassDOT can be found here.
