Proposed Zoning Changes for Town Meeting 2024: Accessory Dwelling Units (ADU)

  • One of the zoning strategies identified in Bourne’s Local Comprehensive Plan and Housing Production Plan is to revise the current Accessory Dwelling Bylaw to encourage the creation of “in-law” or year-round accessory dwellings that can provide significant affordable year-round housing opportunities for residents. An accessory dwelling unit (ADU) is a separate unit within an owner-occupied home, typically as part of a surplus space in a single-family home. ADU’s are separate from the principal dwelling and have their own kitchen, bathroom, and living facilities.
