The Bourne Police Department invites anyone and everyone to attend National Night Out, an annual community-building campaign to promote good relationships between the police and the public.

The goodwill event will take place on Tuesday, August 3, from 6 to 8 PM, at Buzzards Bay Park on Main Street in Buzzards Bay. The event also provides an opportunity to bring together police, first responders and neighbors in a positive setting.

“National Night Out enhances the relationship between neighbors and law enforcement and first responders while bringing back a true sense of community,” a police department press release stated.

The aim of the event is to promote partnerships between officers and the community, and neighborhood camaraderie, with an ultimate goal to “make our neighborhoods safer, more caring places to live,” the department release said.

People of all ages are welcome to attend. Attendees will get to see the vehicles and equipment used every day by first responders, watch a demonstration by the Barnstable County Sheriff’s Department’s K-9 Unit and enjoy hot dogs and hamburgers provided by the Bourne Patrolmen’s Association.

Most of all, National Night Out will be an opportunity to talk with the people who provide for the public’s safety as well as have fun with family and get to know neighbors.
