Plans Review and Permits

Bourne Fire/Rescue and Emergency Services strives to ensure the maintenance of the maximum reasonable degree of safety during construction, demolition, maintenance, and repair operations in all properties within the Town of Bourne. Department personnel will review all construction projects that include work related to fire and life safety systems in a building under the following Chapters of the State Building Code: Chapter 4: Special Detailed Requirements Based on Use and Occupancy; Chapter 9: Fire Protection Systems; or Chapter 34: Existing Building Code. Plans are submitted to the Building Department and the Inspector of Buildings will transmit a complete set of construction documents to Bourne Fire/Rescue and Emergency Services for review.

Projects that involve impairments to existing fire protection systems, such as fire alarm and sprinkler systems, will require a building permit, and a permit from Bourne Fire/Rescue and Emergency Services. Permits to disable fire protection systems are required in Massachusetts General Law, Chapter 148, Section 27A.
